Title: Taming Spektrum iX12
Post by: DavidN on June 16, 2021, 02:09:18 PM
Spektrum iX12 is a great radio, but the memory & processor speed of the Android side is slow. This article can keep your Tx running optimally.

My Ix12 use to do all sorts of funnies - hanging, loosing stuff, corruption etc.

I changed a few things and seems to be running pretty stable at the moment.

I quickly realized that this in not a tablet - and not meant to install all your handy apps - keep it bare bones, its a android based TX nothing more.

I will list the things that I changed and removed, might help some other people here, or worth a try if you having issues.

Most of these is in the android OS settings - so you swipe down from the top, and again, there should be a gear icon - that is how you access the settings

1.) Turn sync off on your google account - no reason to sync contacts and gaming cloud save.
From settings, go to accounts, click on Google, click on your account - on the next screen switch off both sync options.

2.) Turn off text to speech usage reports - it gets used allot, and we don't want this device trying to phone home the whole time.
From settings, go to Language & input, scroll down to Text-to-speech output - click on it, click on the gear icon next to Text-to-speech Engine, click on
Settings for Google Text-to-speech Engine, scroll down to the option Anonymous usage reports - and switch that off.

3.) This is optional - found it made my interface more responsive - might be me imagining stuff - you can try it.
From settings, scroll down to developer option, click on it, scroll down till you find the option Force GPU rendering, switch that on. This off loads all the
graphics to the GPU and frees up the CPU that is already loaded to do some other stuff

4.) Make sure Location is off - don't think this thing has a GPS in any case.
From settings, click on location, make sure it is off.

5.) Uninstall the bloat ware (some of it any way).
This is if you only use your Ix12 as a TX - so use at own risk - but it is save and you can just enable the apps again if you want to undo this step.

From settings, go to Apps and click on it, swipe left till you are in the tab ALL, for each of the items I will list below do the following : click on item, click
force stop, untick show notifications, and then disable. (You might get a notification to uninstall updates for the app, go ahead and do
that, then disable)

List of apps that can safely be disabled:
Android Live Wallpapers
Black Hole
Bubbles
Calendar
Calendar Storage
Contacts
Contacts Storage
Email
Exchange Services
Google Calendar Sync
Google Contacts Sync
Google Play Music
Maps
Music Visualization Wallpapers
Phase Beam
Street View

6.) Disable auto updates on the play store.
I want to be in control when new versions gets installed, so I can make backups before the updates.
On the screen swipe down - on the right 3 icons will appear square, circle and what looks like a play button.
Select the circle.
On the right of the screen there should be a circle with 6 dots in it - select that - this is a list of apps installed.
Open Play Store
Left top there is 3 lines (burger icon) - select that.
Scroll down the menu till you get Settings and select that.
There is a item Auto-update apps - switch it off.

In the future - to update an app - do this :
On the screen swipe down - on the right 3 icons will appear square, circle and what looks like a play button.
Select the circle.
On the right of the screen there should be a circle with 6 dots in it - select that - this is a list of apps installed.
Open Play Store
Left top there is 3 lines (burger icon) - select that.
Select My apps & games
The updates will be listed there and you can install them from there.
